System Configuration
Figure 2-1 shows a typical block diagram of WaveControl® WLDS. The local controllers and pressure sensors are installed at predetermined sites along the pipeline. It is important to note, that each local controller works independently from the reset of the local controller installed in the system. The local and central controllers communicate by TCP/IP protocol via a wide variety of communication channels such as wired, radio or satellite communications. During outage or sabotage of communications the system continues to operate and detects leaks because each local controller continues to analyze incoming data and archives any detected events for later transmission to the central controller. The central controller processes information from connected local controllers and sets their operational parameters. Each local and central controller is equipped with the global positioning system (GPS) receiver and the time provided by GPS is used to synchronize the operations of the whole system. The central computer runs custom HMI and SCADA software and is used for the administration of the whole system. The WaveControl® WLDS can be integrated with existing SCADA systems via OPC protocol or other standard protocols.
